From the very beginning, one of the Foundation's key concerns has been to integrate people with migration experience into the Swiss cultural scene. It has traditionally been active in supporting societally relevant projects that promote and strengthen the various forms of coexistence in pluralistic Switzerland.
Relay:Culture, an area of our project funding, focuses on cultural projects in the disciplines of literature/translation, music, dance, theatre and visual arts that respond to and reflect on current societal needs, and address issues arising in migration societies. It spotlights high-profile, professionally organized artistic endeavours that facilitate exchange between people from different cultural backgrounds and promote inclusion and diversity.
The name Relay:Culture is a nod to the origins of the Landis & Gyr Foundation and the technical innovations of the original firm. A relay is an electrical circuit element that can switch additional or bigger electrical circuits using a low voltage signal. Similarly, the Foundation provides targeted financial support to innovative ideas and cultural projects, which enables them to relay their impulses and ideas to a wider sphere of activity. With this in mind, Relay:Culture is explicitly designed to be a testing ground for surprising, cross-genre formats and experimental ventures that address the theme of inclusive society.
